New case study: traceable environmental records on the Joulescope calibration line

Every Joulescope unit is programmed and calibrated at an in-house test station before it ships. For Jetperch LLC, the Maryland company behind the precision energy analyzer, that process needed one more record: the ambient temperature, relative humidity and atmospheric pressure at the moment of each calibration, so that the calibration report carries documented traceability for the customers who ask for it.

The USB sensor they had been using was discontinued. Founder Matt Liberty went looking for a replacement that was fully calibrated, traceable to NIST or ISO 17025, and simple enough to drop into a test station scripted entirely in Python.

He found Dracal through a web search. He adapted our Python serial example to his station’s internal API, and put a VCP-PTH450-CAL with a three-point certificate into production alongside the launch of the new JS320.

More than a thousand units have been calibrated since, with no issues reported.

“It was exactly as advertised,” Matt told us. “There were no surprises.”
