How do I batch configure multiple USB sensors for a long-term experiment?
Good news: there is very little to configure. Dracal sensors are calibrated at the factory and return their values in engineering units as soon as they are plugged in. What's left can easily be scripted:
- Identify each sensor by its serial number:
dracal-usb-get -llists them all, and the -s option targets one (quick start guide). - Apply calibration points to several -CAL sensors with a script calling dracal-usb-cal (see this answer).
- With the VCP option, send the same POLL and FRAC commands to every port from your code (VCP protocol).
All instrument settings are stored in the instrument itself. You can therefore configure every unit on a single computer, then move them to their final location without redoing anything.
For a long-term experiment, we recommend launching the logging task on a SensGate rather than on a computer: it keeps logging if the network goes down and resumes on its own after a power failure. In DracalView, a single logging task can record all your sensors in one synchronized file.
